Each year, it comes and goes. 2015 is now replaced by 2016. Thus, 2015 is now history and let us look forward to another year of good thoughts, deeds and words. Let us put the Brahmaviharas before others: metta – unconditional love, karuna – compassion, mudita – altruistic joy and upekha – equanimity.
This year marks the 96th. year of Seck Kia Eenh Temple. Seck Kia Eenh Temple has served the people of Melaka in more ways than one. Over the years, SKE has provided a strong platform for the propagation of the Dhamma. For the young, the SKE Dhamma School has been around for many years for them to acquire and practice the Dhamma. Prominent national Buddhist leaders such as Professor Datuk Seri Dr. Victor Wee, Datuk Charlie Chia, Bro Tan Huat Chye spent a large portion of their younger days in the SKE Temple. The seeds were planted in them at an early age while they were kids attending the Dhamma School in SKE. Others from SKE who are very committed and involved in many other Buddhist Associations in KL and the Klang Valley are Bro. David Tan, Bro. KC Tan, Sis. Ivy Wee, Sis. Peck Har, etc.
On the international front, we have Most Venerable Mahinda Maha Thera. Bhante who has been travelling from country to country spreading the message of Metta Round the World and propagate the Sublime Teachings of the Buddha is from SKE Temple too. He spent a few years serving the temple before he was ordained as a monk in the 70s.
SKE is responsible for many other programmes to benefit the devotees, the members and the general public. The Cancer Fund, the Mudita Home and the Welfare Section, organize and provide financial aids to the people. Religious programmes such as Chanting lessons, meditation practice and Dhamma talks are conducted every week. Religious services and prayers are held regularly every week.
Last year, all the annual events were carried out very successfully. However, the 2nd. International Buddhist Convention was another milestone for SKE where more than 200 members from Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia participated. Most Venerable A. Ratanasiri, Most Venerable Ajahn Brahmavamso, Most Venerable Bhante Mahinda and Most Venerable Bhante Sanghasena, Prof. Datuk Seri Dr. Victor Wee, Prof. Ng Siew Hua(USM) , Assoc. Prof. Punna Wong(Monash U), Bro. KV Soon, Mr. Maling Gombu(India), Mr. Handaka Vijjananda(Indonesia)and Mr. T.K. Kang(Hong Kong) were the speakers of the convention.
2016 will see the launch of the SKE Suvarnamitra Project. For a start, it will look into the basic needs of the elderly members of the Association, such as visiting them at their home, provide transport to the temple or grocers and visit them in the hospital when sick. Through this project, it is hope that the majority of the SKE members can be mobilized and are constantly in touch of one another.
The understanding and continuous support of the members, kind donors and the public are paramount. We welcome your support in cash and kind. Also, let use take every opportunity to radiate loving kindness so that the state and federal governments remain relevant to provide peace and harmony for us to learn and practice the Dhamma.
Thank You To ALL. Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
Sukhi Hotu!(May you be well and happy always)
